Enrique: No news on Pedro

Luis Enrique has reiterated his desire Pedro Rodriguez remains at Barcelona and recalled his time as Coach of Roma.

Barca meet Roma on Wednesday in the Joan Gamper Trophy and the trainer, having confirmed Lionel Messi and Neymar could be involved, was asked about Pedro, who is reportedly close to joining Manchester United.

“Pedro is a player at the highest level. As a Coach I want him to stay,” Enrique replied, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“The only way anyone will leave is if they want to leave. As of today there is no news.”

Enrique spent a year in charge of Roma in the 2011-12 season and was asked by the Press about his stay in Italy.

“I had a unique experience in Rome. I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me. It was a difficult year, with leadership changes, a new Coach…

“The crowd was with us and we always did our best to deserve it. I have great memories of that year. It was very positive for me.

“[Rudi Garcia] is in his third year and has many possibilities in Serie A. I think there are circumstances in which he can win the Scudetto.

“Juventus have had a good transfer market. Milan, Inter and Lazio could also be in the fight. It’s more interesting if it’s open. Hopefully Roma can win the League.”
