‘Sevilla will be ready for Barca’

Jose Antonio Reyes has promised that Sevilla will be ready for the UEFA Super Cup against Barcelona on August 11.

The Andalucians’ first competitive match of 2015-16 is just under three weeks away, but the former Arsenal and Atletico Madrid attacker believes his side’s pre-season preparations have put them in good stead for the Tbilisi showdown.

“We’re training at very strong intensity, although we still have to do a little more training to be at 100 percent,” he said at a Press conference.

“We know the Coach and the intensity he craves, what he wants from us in training and matches, and that mentality must be present among the players.

“This [high] pace suits the new players so they get used to it from the beginning. On [August] 11, if we continue like this, we’ll be in good shape for the Supercopa.

“[The new boys] are developing well, but everything takes time and it can’t all happen in one day.

“They haven’t trained much with us yet, but I can see that [Yevhen] Konoplyanka has a lot of quality and will hopefully help us a lot.

“Fear doesn’t exist in football. Competition is good but, for me, the fear of it doesn’t exist.”

Reyes also congratulated sporting director Monchi for his recent contract extension until 2020.

“With Monchi, I’ve always had something special. I get on very well with him,” he added.

“He was at our training complex [on Wednesday] and I congratulated him in person. I’m happy for him, and so are all Sevillismo.

“I think that he’s been fundamental to all the [recent] success of this team.”
