Alcacer desperate for Otamendi stay

Paco Alcacer has admitted that he would “love” Nicolas Otamendi to remain at Valencia, despite continued speculation linking the defender with an exit.

Valencian daily Superdeporte reported on Friday that the 27-year-old was still intent on leaving Los Che before the start of next season, and the striker tried his best to convince his teammate into staying put ahead of his side’s friendly against PSV on Saturday.

“Nico is an important player and I’d love him to stay. He’s a key part of the Valencia squad,” he told reporters.

“If I said that I didn’t want [Otamendi] to stay then I’d be lying.

“[Matthew Ryan’s] come here to play football. If he’s here then it’s because he’s a great goalkeeper, highly skilled, flexible and will give us a lot.

[The Champions League playoff] may be the biggest game of my career so far, but I won’t approach it as a special match. The team are training well and will be ready for the tie.

“Next season, every game will be important as the standards have been raised. It all helps to strengthen the team.”
