Atletico Madrid are reportedly closing in on the capture of Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht.
According to dh.be, the 20-year-old – who can play at centre-back or right-back – could undergo a medical in the Spanish capital on Monday if talks conclude this weekend.
On the prospect of joining Atleti, Mbemba coyly responded: “I’m not thinking about a transfer. That’s a job for my agent.
“There’s much talk of Madrid in the media, but who said that it’s Atletico? It could be Real…
“One thing is for certain – I’m under contract until 2017 at Anderlecht and I’ll stay if another club are unable to reach an agreement for me, but I won’t renew my contract.”
AS has since reported that Mbemba did not play Saturday’s friendly against Seraing United and was spotted taking pictures with Anderlecht fans in a farewell-like manner.
The starlet is likely to be signed as cover for first-choice centre-backs Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez following Joao Miranda’s departure to Inter and Toby Alderweireld’s expected move to Tottenham Hotspur.
