Las Palmas confirm Araujo signing

The President of newly-promoted Las Palmas has confirmed the club will sign Sergio Araujo on a permanent basis.

Araujo was on loan at the island outfit from Boca Juniors last season and proved prolific in the Segunda, scoring 25 goals as Las Palmas returned to the top flight.

President Miguel Angel Ramirez has said Araujo has agreed a five-year contract with Los Amarillos and they have already turned down a €10m approach for the forward.

Las Palmas are losing goalkeeper Casto Espinosa, who cited personal reasons for his departure, and Ramirez mentioned Real Valladolid’s Javi Varas as a possible replacement.

Ramirez also confirmed Juan Valeron is among the players who have had their contracts extended for the coming season and said he wants a 23-man squad.

There remains doubt over the future of Coach Paco Herrera, who has been offered a contract renewal, but Ramirez conceded the trainer could quit as he would get a better offer elsewhere.
