Carvajal ‘can’t imagine Iker leaving’

Dani Carvajal has responded to rumours Iker Casillas is leaving Real Madrid by saying it is hard to envision the goalkeeper in the colours of another team.

Carvajal and Casillas are with the Spain squad for a friendly against Costa Rica and a Euro 2016 qualifier with Belarus, and the right-back appeared at a Press conference.

“Neither I nor anyone else can imagine Iker with a shirt other than Real Madrid,” he said, AS reports.

Carvajal was also asked about a number of topics, from comments made by Diego Simeone over next season’s title race to the competition at right-back in both club and country.

“If I’m here it’s because of the work I’ve done. Anyone who knows me knows I’m going to make it difficult for Vicente Del Bosque. It’s a reward and an honour to be with these teammates,” he continued.

“Next year I will compete with Danilo and I’ll make it difficult for the Coach.

“I have no idea what Simeone said. It’s his opinion. Whoever wins the League will deserve it.

“Gerard Pique? Any criticism is a subjective opinion. It’s not for me to judge. The fans are always with the team. I don’t know if any of the Madrid players have talked to Pique [about controversial comments made during the treble celebrations]. I prefer to stay away from those issues.

“We’ve been amazed by the recognition we’ve received in Leon, in the city and the stadium. It’s been great.

“This isn’t a friendly for Costa Rica. They’re preparing for a major tournament [the Gold Cup].”
