Madrid ‘want Aguero this summer’

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is reportedly on Real Madrid’s summer shopping list as Florentino Perez looks to excite the fans.

AS claim the President will target the former Atletico Madrid forward as a way to win the favour of the supporters after sacking the popular Carlo Ancelotti.

Rafa Benitez is set to replace the Italian and could be given Aguero as part of his team, four years after Madrid were denied in their pursuit of the Argentine.

Aguero wanted to move to Santiago Bernabeu but Atletico wouldn’t sell to their city rivals, with Aguero later suggesting he was left with no option but to accept City’s offer.

But Aguero retains a house in an exclusive area of the capital, AS say, and has long maintained he will one day play for Los Blancos.

Perez wants a big-name signing but the feeling is there are few players of that calibre available, as they mostly already play for Madrid or Barcelona.

Aguero, who is 27 on Tuesday, is put in the same bracket as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez as the headline arrival for the summer, having scored more Premier League goals in 2014-15 than Diego Costa and Harry Kane, finishing as the League’s top scorer.

AS note, however, that Madrid’s chances of signing Aguero largely hinge on the price City ask, and suggest that this could be a long-running transfer saga.
