Thomas Vermaelen thanked the Barcelona fans for their patience after he finally made his debut for the club.
The Belgium international joined Barca from Arsenal after the 2014 World Cup but injuries continually delayed his first appearance until he featured for around an hour of the last League game of the season.
“I am very happy of course, very grateful because it’s been difficult with my injury,” he said after the match, AS reports.
“The fans have been patient with me. I am grateful to the fans for the support and the applause when I was subbed.
“It’s been a long time, a bad time, all the time I was out. I couldn’t recover but I’m better now.
“My Spanish is better now and I understand more. At first it was difficult but on the pitch the language is universal. I understand.”
