Jose Ramon Sandoval has credited Granada’s persistence as a key factor in avoiding relegation from La Liga.
Granada stayed up on the final day as they drew 0-0 with Atletico Madrid and Almeria went down after a 3-2 defeat against Valencia.
Eibar were also condemned as Deportivo La Coruna drew 2-2 with Barcelona, rendering the Basques’ 3-0 win over already-down Cordoba as meaningless.
“Thanks to the fans and the players who never gave up,” Sandoval said after the final whistle, AS reports.
“I thanked the squad before the match. Football is football players. Things were bad but they were able to react in time.
“We had to be calm. Atletico could have done us great harm. We had to play very smart.
“There were a lot of possibilities in terms of results. We played on a knife edge because ultimately we depended on others. I prayed a lot.”
