Almeria deduction decision delayed

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has delayed by a week a decision on the points deduction faced by Almeria.

It means Almeria won’t know if they are to lose three points until after the League season is over, with Sergi Barjuan’s side playing Valencia on Saturday in their final fixture.

Almeria are second-bottom of the table ahead of the last round of games, two points from safety. Should they lose to Los Che they will be relegated regardless of any points deduction, but could be in a situation that sees them win, only to be docked points days later and condemned to the Segunda.

Los Rojiblancos face the sanction for irregularities over the signing of Michael Jakobsen from Aalborg in 2011, the Danish club claiming they are owed €4,500 in training rights.

Almeria have previously denied owing any money to Aalborg and, Marca reports, the club’s general secretary Mariano Blanco argued for the charge to be withdrawn, a position rejected by FIFA.
