‘El Arabi is Granada’s franchise’

Jose Ramon Sandoval explained how he engineered a win for Granada over Getafe in his first game as Coach. ‘I told Youssef El Arabi he’s our franchise.’

El Arabi scored both goals, either side of one from Pedro Leon, to give El Grana a first win since early March only a few days after Abel Resino was sacked.

Sandoval was parachuted in to try and save Granada from the drop and reflected on the status of the League after the final whistle.

“If we win the last three games, we’re saved. It will be very difficult,” he acknowledged, AS reports.

“The stadium will be packed against Cordoba and that will help us. We may have a margin of error as not every team will win every game.

“I gave them five minutes to think at half time and then told them they had to win. They knew if we did what we did in the first half we would win. Then Leon scored a great goal.

“I had a conversation with El Arabi and told him he’s the franchise player on our team. I asked for 70 minutes for the team and assured him he would get four chances. Like any striker, he needs to score goals.”
