‘Madrid scored at critical times’

Emilio Butragueno pointed to the timing of Real Madrid’s three goals against Almeria as crucial in their victory.

The result means Madrid again trail League leaders Barcelona by two points and the Blancos icon discussed the match after the final whistle, as well as a range of other topics.

“It’s a good result, they have played very well,” Butragueno said, according to AS.

“It wasn’t easy. The goals came at crucial moments and after that we were calmer.

“[James Rodriguez’s goal] was a beauty. It was the best play of the game, how he struck the ball. And it was important. It gave us the advantage at half time.

“[Martin Odegaard, named on the Madrid bench] is a player with a huge future. He’s 16 and he has a lot of talent and that’s what matters. We’re all hopeful about his future.

“I refer to the statement [about the reported transfer ban]. I want to transmit tranquillity to the fans. The statement is very clear and I reiterate calm on this issue.

“We have a lot at stake [in the next two games, against Sevilla and Juventus]. The team has improved in recent weeks.

“There is a desire to bring joy to the fans. The players want these games. They’re finals. It’s necessary to show a lot.”
