Emery upbeat for Sevilla fight

Sevilla boss Unai Emery insists his team are still in there fighting for a Champions League place following the 2-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

The win lifts the Andalusians into fourth place and above Valencia, who face relegation-threatened Granada on Monday night, with first-half goals from Vicente Iborra and Daniel Carrico proving enough to dispose of the Madrid side.

“This win means we are upbeat to continue fighting for a Champions League place because we now have 66 points and are very hopeful,” he told a Press conference.

“I wouldn’t say we managed to control the game despite having some very clear-cut chances on the counter-attack, although I must congratulate our defence.

“The main way to get into the Champions League is through La Liga but then there is the Europa League, which is another option if we can manage to win it, so we’ve got to continue working with enthusiasm.

“In many Leagues you’d be assured of a Champions League spot with the points we have, even third place, but in Spain there are four teams doing that.”
