Jonny: ‘We can hurt Madrid’

Celta Vigo right-back Jonny is convinced his team can cause Real Madrid problems this weekend provided they get hold of the ball.

The teams clash at Balaidos on Saturday with the Galicians still eyeing a Europa League place and Madrid looking to take all three points in their pursuit of La Liga leaders Barcelona.

“If we can get hold of the ball then we can hurt them,” the Spain Under-21 international told a Press conference.

“We must do what we’ve been doing recently and try to get after them, but we’ll have to play with more concentration than ever.

“We need to be eager and give 200 per cent because if we make an error then Madrid can kill you on the counter-attack.

“The dream of reaching Europe is still alive and hopefully we’ll play well to please our fans. There are six game left and we’ll compete to the death in every one of them.

“Balaidos is a fortress and we are playing really well there, so we know we need to pick up most of our points at home.”

Vigo-born Jonny also commented on the injuries Carlo Ancelotti’s squad has suffered of late and feels it will not make any difference against Celta.

“We know they’ll be coming here with some people missing but they still have a great bench. You always want to play against the best but whoever comes in will perform equally as well, if not better.

“All their players are of a very high standard and they’ll be giving their all because they are playing for the title, but we can compete against the big sides.

“We are aware we’ll need to run twice as much as usual yet this is a team that is growing and moving forward,” he insisted.
