Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos felt his side were worthy victors in their 1-0 Champions League quarter-final aggregate win over Atletico Madrid.
Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez’s late winner ensured Los Blancos will line up alongside Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus in the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition, something Kroos felt was fully deserved.
“We clearly saw which was the better team over the two games,” the German told reporters post-match.
“We should have scored earlier because we had one or two chances in the first half and even more after the break.
“Atletico didn’t take any risks and kept their distance, but we were patient and scored at just the right time.
“We knew what they’d do and they were probably hoping to score from a corner or a direct free-kick. I have to admit they’ve had a lot of success against us like that.
“It’s always very difficult playing against Atletico but we did well, if you take both matches into account, because we never gave them a chance.
“We are rightly through to the next round,” declared Kroos.
