Mario Mandzukic has confirmed that Dani Carvajal did not bite him during the Champions League quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Television footage showed that Carvajal could have bitten the Croatian inside the Madrid penalty box, something that both parties now deny was the case.
“It was a tough game and both sides gave everything, but from my point of view there wasn’t an issue, no bite, nothing,” he claimed on Twitter.
Carvajal also took to social media to give his take on the matter.
“In view of the fact that after the match people accused me of biting an opponent, I’d like to make it clear that I didn’t bite anyone,” stated the Madrid defender.
UEFA have also said in a statement that it is not looking into the incident, although European football’s governing body will open proceedings against Atletico over blocked stairways at the Vicente Calderon and a pitch invasion.
“No other disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the above-mentioned match,” it read.
