Mario Suarez and Iker Casillas offered differing appraisals of the referee in the Champions League quarter-final between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
Serbia’s Milorad Mazic was the man in charge of the goalless draw and Mario, in an interview with TVE, was critical of his performance.
“You can’t put a Serbian in charge, with all due respect,” SportYou reports the midfielder saying, having picked up a booking that rules him out of the second leg.
“The referee was very bad. Hopefully in the return the referee is one of the best. I don’t think he kept up with the pace [of the game]. But it’s not an excuse.”
Casillas was however on the official’s side, commending Mazic for his even-handed approach.
“I think he’s been good. Maybe he could have been more strict but it was equal for both sides,” the goalkeeper noted.
