Arbeloa optimistic about Atleti tie

Alvaro Arbeloa says Real Madrid are ready to end their winless streak against Atletico Madrid next week following Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Eibar.

Los Blancos face their arch-rivals – whom they have not beaten in six meetings this season – in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday, and the defender believes his side have learned from their previous mistakes.

“We’re happy [about the result] because we had some absences but still made a great effort,” he told reporters.

“I’m happy for Jese [Rodriguez], [Asier [Illarramendi and Chicharito. They’re all helping us.

“On the left, we had width thanks to Marcelo and Cristiano [Ronaldo]. [Jese and I] also tried [to penetrate] from the right.

“[Dani] Carvajal played at Vallecas and was rested, so I offered my services instead.

"I weren’t worried [about Keylor Navas and Pepe’s collision] because they’ve run into walls before.

“We have a lot of optimism and motivation. I think we know why we’ve failed to beat them this season.

“We have options on the bench to change the game and also play the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We’re a great team and hopefully we can end our [losing] streak.”
