Miranda: ‘Madrid not unbeatable’

Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is keen to point out that his side have not lost against Real Madrid in six meetings this season.

The clubs clash again in the Champions League next week and the Brazilian feels that despite their cross-city rivals coming back into form recently they can still be beaten.

“They will be two tough games. Real Madrid have a really strong team and right now they are probably the best in the world,” the 30-year-old told Estadao.

“However, they are not unbeatable. We have a very competitive side and we’ve faced them six teams already this season and not lost.”

Miranda admits that Cristiano Ronaldo is once again going to be the danger man for Los Blancos.

“It’s vital we keep a player by his side and if we lose the ball we have to get it back as soon as possible.

“We need to be very focused and very organised. When we attack it will be important to maintain our defensive structure.”

At the same time, he acknowledged that Atleti’s chances of winning La Liga have all but disappeared.

“We are nine points behind the leaders, although it could still happen, but I think the fight for the title will be difficult.

“Our aim now is to get second or third and achieve a Champions League place.”
