Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has taken a swipe at the football being played by his native Holland, describing it as something that “hurts your eyes”.
Cruyff is unhappy at what he sees as a betrayal of his nation’s football philosophy and called for a radical shake-up ahead of Tuesday’s friendly with Spain at the Amsterdam Arena.
“Everything must be changed as soon as possible because this kind of football hurts your eyes,” wrote Cruyff in is column in De Telegraaf newspaper.
The Dutchman believes Holland’s display in the 1-1 draw with Turkey on Saturday typifies the kind of football displayed by a declining team.
“We are not making an impression anywhere and I ask myself when the alarm bells are going to start ringing,” he insisted.
