Bartomeu hails ‘vibrant’ Clasico

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has hailed  La Blaugrana’s 2-1 Clasico win over Real Madrid.

Bartomeu felt that it was important the fans enjoyed the game, although he believed the Catalans were worthy winners.

“The most important thing is that people have seen a vibrant and exciting match,” he told Canal Plus.

“It was played from end to end and there were a lot of chances for both sides, but on the whole I though Barca deserved to win.

“In the first half Madrid imposed themselves upon us but we are a team that likes to have the ball and eventually that’s what happened.

“We were expecting Luis Suarez to score. He plays at a very high standard and is continuing to improve, as is the team,” declared Bartomeu, who was asked about the controversial selection of a venue for the Copa del Rey final in May.

“Both Athletic Bilbao and ourselves have requested by letter that the final is played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We have both spoken with [Real Madrid President] Florentino Perez but what was said must remain between us.

“However, we’ve made our position clear,” he confirmed.
