Modric: Madrid will be back

Luka Modric has insisted that a ‘much better’ Real Madrid will take to the pitch in their remaining matches of the season.

The Croatian midfielder made his long-awaited comeback from a hamstring injury as a substitute during Los Blancos’ 4-3 defeat by Schalke in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.

Madrid nonetheless went on to live another day in Europe’s elite club competition after they emerged 5-4 victors on aggregate, and Modric played down the significance of their loss.

“Getting through to the next round is very important for us, sometimes you have to suffer and this will make us stronger,” he said.

“We have to get back to playing the way we were at the start of the season.

“We have a lot of quality and I think that we're going to see a much better Real Madrid in the next game.”
