Neymar has apologised to fellow Barcelona star Luis Suarez for failing to spot his run in an early phase of play against Villarreal on Wednesday.
The Brazilian led a breakaway near the end of the first half and eventually found himself in a two-on-two with Yellow Submarine defenders, but instead of playing in the No 9, who was unmarked in the middle of the box, he chose to go by himself, only to see his finish charged down by Mario.
“I’m very happy to be back in the [Copa] final, so I must congratulate the team,” the former Santos attacker said of Barca’s second successive Copa del Rey final, courtesy of a 6-2 aggregate victory over Villarreal in the last four.
“Villarreal are a great team, who have many top players, and we knew it’d be a very difficult game.
“However, we started very well and scored a very quick goal, which really helped our cause.
“I don’t know if it’s possible, but I’d like to play [the final] at Camp Nou.
“[On his failure to play in Luis Suarez] I knew we were two against one, but space opened up [in front of me] so I went for the strike.
“These things happen sometimes, but we know and understand very well what’s best for the team and must always pass if it’s possible.
“I apologise to Luis [Suarez], and if I can I’ll pass to him next time.”
