‘Casillas tired of being a scapegoat’

Iker Casillas is ‘tired’ of being constantly made a scapegoat for Real Madrid’s failings after his blunder during Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

The goalkeeper came under fire for his inability to keep out Tiago’s opening goal at the Vicente Calderon as the ball squirmed through his gloves, albeit helped on by a deflection Raphael Varane.

Casillas defended his gaffe after the match, posing the question, “what mistake?”, but Julio Pulido, editor of Spanish football show Deportes Cuatro, gave an alternative take on the incident.

“Casillas could’ve done more than he did with the first goal, no doubt,” he said.

“That said, what’s happening is that Iker has become tired of being blamed for Real Madrid’s defeats. [It seems] the fans are only focused on defeats.”
