‘Madrid is Atletico’s for now’

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has revelled in his side’s derby win over Real Madrid but admitted the balance could change again quickly.

The champions haven’t lost in any of the last six games against their city rivals and Cerezo has spoken excitedly of the future under Diego Simeone, while calling for some perspective.

“Today Atletico have command of the capital, but that could change tomorrow,” he admitted, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“We won’t step back. These are three points and they taste great but we have to continue with work and humility. That is the key to success.

“I am convinced we will fight to the end for the two titles we have left, the League and the Champions League. I don’t know if we will win but we will fight.

“We can get to [the Champions League final in Berlin]. There is a lot of work to do to achieve it. But I’m sure a third final would be the charm.

“The big advantage of this is that Atletico are a team where what matters is the whole, not the individual. This is undoubtedly a team for eternity.”
