Everton ask about Madrid striker

Everton have made enquiries about Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.

Toffees’ boss Roberto Martinez is keen to reinforce his attacking options following the departure of Samuel Eto’o to Sampdoria, while youngster Jese is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League as he continues his rehabilitation from long-term injury.

The 21-year-old suffered cruciate ligament damage during a Champions League match with Schalke in March last year but has struggled to break into the Madrid team since his return.

The Real Madrid hierarchy are due to sit down with boss Carlo Ancelotti to discuss Everton’s proposal to take him to Goodison Park before making any decision.

However, it is likely the Italian will reject the offer as he sees Jese as back-up for Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale as his team enter a crucial stage of the season.

The Merseysiders would initially like to take him on loan until the summer and Canaries-born Jese will give Los Blancos his response within the next couple of days.
