Arda Turan in FIFA vote mix-up

Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan insists FIFA got his vote wrong when he was asked to pick the best Coach of 2014.

The award, presented at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich on Monday night, was eventually won by Germany national team boss Joachim Low.

However, Turan maintained via Twitter that he voted for Diego Simeone, his boss at the Vicente Calderon, and not Jose Mourinho as FIFA claim.

“Back then the delegates asked me and I chose ‘Cholo’ Simeone as best Coach and [Cristiano] Ronaldo as best player. I said it exactly like that,” he tweeted.

Even so, in the selections published on FIFA’s website, the Turkish international is listed as having chosen Mourinho in first place, Low in second and Simeone in third.

“For me Simeone is the best Coach in the world and if he had won the award I’d be as happy as if they’d given it to me,” he continued.

“I’d like the Press and the whole world to know this. I’ve explained it again so nobody can be confused.”
