Ter-Stegen wants No 1 jersey at Barca

Marc-Andre Ter-Stegen says he is desperate to get hold of the No 1 jersey at Barcelona this season.

The 22-year-old, signed from Borussia Monchengladbach for a reported €12m last summer, has had to play second fiddle to Claudio Bravo this season, having suffered a back injury 10 days before the start of the campaign.

However, Ter-Stegen is hoping he gets the opportunity to show his worth this year after boss Luis Enrique’s recent announcement that he would be making some changes.

“It’s good to be at Barca but the situation is difficult. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care and it isn’t easy being a spectator,” he told Sport Bild.

“I want to be the No 1 and I’m convinced that’s something that will happen if I continue to improve and work hard.

“I can only try to prove that I am the best [of the two goalkeepers] and that’s why I came here, so it’s something I will fight for.

“When I left Borussia I decided against what my heart was telling me, but I’m glad I did,” he added.
