Madrid clean up at awards ceremony

Real Madrid have dominated the prizes at the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony held in Dubai.

Los Blancos were named Club of the Year while Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlo Ancelotti, James Rodriguez and President Florentino Perez all picked up individual awards on the night.

Ronaldo was named Player of the Year as well as fans’ favourite, Ancelotti picked up the prize as Best Coach and media attraction, James was named Breakthrough Player of the Year, and Perez received the Best President award.

UEFA President Michel Platini, who presented Perez with his award, was gushing in his praise for Madrid.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, listen please. Two important things about Madrid: the first is that it founded FIFA in 1904 and the other is that UEFA see it as the most successful team.

“All of which means it’s a great club. Congratulations Madrid,” said the Frenchman.

Perez responded by saying that he wanted “to give thanks for this award” and that he thinks “Platini is the best President for UEFA, so I hope he stays in the role for many years”.
