One of Jordi Alba’s agents got in touch with Manchester City and offered the player to the Premier League club in late October, claims Marca.
The Barcelona left-back was less than happy at the Camp Nou at the time, particularly after being left on the bench for El Clasico against Real Madrid having previously been a regular in boss Luis Enrique’s starting line-up.
The report states the reason for getting in touch with the English champions was twofold. Firstly, to see if City may be interested in the 25-year-old and also to use any possible offer as a negotiating tool in a bid to increase his salary at Barca.
Alba’s contract with the Catalan giants runs until 2017 and he is understood to earn around €3.5m-a-year, almost one third of what fellow defender Dani Alves is believed to take home.
