‘Suarez the complete No 9’

Former Barcelona star Hans Krankl has lavished praise on Luis Suarez, hailing the Uruguayan as the ultimate incarnation of the modern striker.

The Austria legend fired 34 goals in 46 appearances for La Blaugrana between 1978 and 1981, and he believes the ex-Liverpool hitman will prove to be a worthy addition to the Catalan giants' frontline in due course.

"From what I saw in the World Cup, he may seem a bit too temperamental at times, but for me he's a proper 'nine' – a modern, quick scoring talent who can score goals and assist them," he told Mundo Deportivo.

"Right now, he's still not 100 per cent, so you can imagine when he's fully fit. He just needs time. The good thing about how Barca play is that the forwards constantly swap positions, and Suarez can adapt to that.

"I don't know if Suarez can score as many goals as I did, not least because in my time I was in charge of scoring and today it's the top scorer in the history of the club, Messi."
