La Liga midfielders named by FIFPro

Eight of the 15 midfielders shortlisted in the FIFPro awards have been recognised at least in part for their performances in La Liga.

Andres Iniesta and Toni Kroos are joined by Xavi Hernandez, Luka Modric and James Rodriguez, who all ply their trade in the Primera.

Kroos moved to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich, while James joined Los Blancos from Monaco, both transfers taking place after the World Cup.

Also on the list are former Madrid pair Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso, who left Santiago Bernabeu for Manchester United and Bayern Munich respectively, and ex-Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas, who joined Chelsea.

Eden Hazard, Mesut Ozil, Yaya Toure, Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Yaya Toure and Arturo Vidal are the other players in contention for a place in the 2014 World XI.

The team of the year will be named at the Ballon d’Or gala on January 12, with one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards to be honoured.
