No regrets for Jemez over Zidane

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez says he has no regrets over the comments he made regarding Zinedine Zidane’s coaching qualifications.

Jemez had questioned how Zidane could sit on the bench at Real Madrid Castilla despite not having the requisite certificates, suggesting it was an affront to coaches who have put in the work and received the full UEFA authorisation.

However, Jemez insists he has nothing against Real Madrid or Zidane, who he considers a colleague.

“I don’t regret what I said about Zidane but I’m sorry they consider me anti-Madrid. I respect them very much,” he told La Goleada.

“I was asked a question and gave my opinion, which I stand by. I’ve no war with Zidane.

“When he gets his qualifications and dedicates himself to coaching he’ll do brilliantly if he has half the talent he had as a player.

“I was wrong when I said I didn’t consider him to be a colleague, but he has Level 2 as a Coach and I consider him to be a colleague.

“Carlo Ancelotti seems a fantastic guy, as does Zidane, although I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting them.

“Real Madrid haven’t done anything to me and as a fan they’ve given me a lot of joy. I have a lot of friends who are Madrid fans and I go to their stadium a lot to watch them play.

“However, I can’t say I thought it was good that Zidane was coaching without qualifications,” he added.
