Albiol rues ‘fine margins’

Raul Albiol claimed that 'fine margins' were the difference during Spain's 1-0 friendly defeat to Germany.

La Roja ended 2014 on a losing note thanks to Toni Kroos' late winner at Balaidos tonight, but the defender was adamant that his side matched the world champions in every aspect bar the goal.

“It was even. They found the winning goal at the end and we made a great effort, but we weren't able to [make it count],” Albiol expressed in his post-match interview.

“The pitch was very heavy, but that was the case on both sides. Germany are very strong physically and perhaps hurt us a little bit more, but they are the world champions and we matched them. The game was decided by fine margins.

“This result will make us a more mature team for when we play big sides like Germany again. Hopefully we'll go to the Euros, having grown as a team.

“It's much better [to face strong teams in friendlies], and the more games you play, the more you can see the intensity of the players."
