LFP ordered to licence Leon

A Madrid court has ordered the LFP to grant Pedro Leon the necessary paperwork so he can turn out for Getafe.

Leon hasn’t played for his club all season after Getafe chose not to register him in their squad for fear of exceeding the LFP-imposed wage cap.

AS reports that the League have been told to allow Leon to sign on with his club and to do so without Getafe facing reprisals.

Leon has been told to pay a €30,000 deposit, lower than the €100,000 the League were seeking, and must pay within 20 days if the ruling is to come into effect.

The decision is also subject to appeal and the LFP have 20 days to appeal.

Leon has thanked the court for supporting his case and AS note the judge questioned the League’s power over club finances.

The AFE, the Spanish players’ union, also welcomed the decision, but acknowledged the saga isn’t over yet.
