Villa: Trust the players & doctors

David Villa can’t fathom the idea that Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas would turn down the chance to play for Spain if they weren’t actually injured.

The Chelsea pair’s status has been a point of controversy over the international break after Costa was left out of the squad to play Belarus and Germany in an effort to give the striker some rest, a decision welcomed by Jose Mourinho.

Cesc was originally named in the group but reported injured and was sent home by the national team doctors but was able to play 90 minutes for his club prior to joining up.

Sergio Ramos has publically questioned the commitment of ‘some players,’ not naming Costa and Cesc specifically, and Villa was asked about the goings-on by reporters.

“I can’t comment because I’m not there, but a player always wants to play,” the New York City FC striker said, AS reports.

“In my experience the worst thing for a player is to be injured and no player is thinking they don’t want to play, either with his team or the national team.

“So if you are injured, be it Costa or others, it’s because they really can’t play the game. You have to trust him, the decision of the player and the doctors.”
