Koke relief at Atleti victory

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke declared himself relieved following the 2-0 Champions League win over Malmo in Sweden.

Koke netted on the half-hour mark before a Raul Garcia goal 12 minutes from time wrapped things up for the visitors, meaning Atleti are now clear at the top of Group A with nine points and odds-on to qualify for the next stage.

“It was a very different game [from the 5-0 victory at the Vicente Calderon two weeks ago],” he told reporters.

“We knew they would press us a lot more and it would be difficult as it would be end-to-end, with them using long balls to hit their strong attackers.

“But we worked hard defensively and made the most of our chances. My goal was a beautiful move because it came when we broke on the counter-attack.

“Juanfran likes to get forward and he’s almost a winger, although his position is full-back, and I was aware of that so I knew where to position myself.

“I just had to put my foot in the right position to score,” he claimed.
