‘Celta needed luck and more’

Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez has said there was an element of luck to the win over Barcelona as well as his team’s mental strength.

Joaquin Larrivey scored the only goal of the game at Camp Nou and Alvarez made a number of excellent saves to maintain the lead, while Barca also hit the woodwork on four separate occasions.

“Our team was very good throughout the match although we suffered and we attacked,” he said, AS Reports.

“To win at Barca you need luck and something more. The ball didn’t want to go in for them and we had mental toughness. We learned to take our chances.

“Celta’s best player? We’re not about one player. We all deserve this victory.

“The Coach is working well, instilling good ideas and congratulations have to go to him because he is preparing us well for games.

“We have to take each game as it comes. We want to stay high in the League, of course, and we must continue on this dynamic to continue to excite the Celta fans.”

Despite the result Alvarez believes Barca don’t need to be overly concerned as, on another day, they wouldn’t find the frame of the goal with such regularity.

“Barca is still a great team. Hitting the bar four times means something,” he admitted.

“Maybe they didn’t have their best day and we had ours.”
