Arbeloa: James a bargain & a blessing

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has been very impressed by James Rodriguez’s start at the club even in light of his enormous price tag.

James scored twice as Madrid beat Granada on Saturday, including a spectacular volley to for Los Blancos’ second goal and Arbeloa, who entered the game as a replacement for the injured Dani Carvajal, waxed lyrical over the Colombia international.

“Players like him fit into any system on any team,” he said, AS reports.

“He is an absolute star. Having him is a bargain and a blessing. He is sacrificing a lot in defence.”

The victory was Madrid’s 11th in a row in all competitions and Arbeloa said the team isn’t ready to stop there, wanting to keep up the pressure on teams around them.

He also explained the circumstances of his involvement in the match after Carvajal appeared to suffer a thigh injury.

“Dani had some discomfort and we didn’t want to take a risk,” he revealed.

“We’re on a run that makes us happy and this is the line we want to follow. We want to see if we can get a 12th consecutive victory.

“The goal is to win and win so our rivals feel the pressure.”
