Barcelona defender Marc Bartra has expressed surprise that Luis Suarez wasn’t on the list of candidates to win the Ballon d’Or.
Suarez wasn’t included on the shortlist despite his goal scoring feats for Liverpool, finding the net 31 times as the Reds finished as runners-up in the Premier League and Suarez claimed a share of the Golden Boot, with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I’m surprised, it’s true,” Barta told beIN Sports, Mundo Deportivo reports.
“I thought he had a spectacular year. He’s a great player, one of the best strikers in the world, and I think he deserves to be on the shortlist.”
Bartra was also asked about the perception that Barca this year have a problem against stronger opposition, having lost to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
“It’s true we haven’t done well against our toughest rivals, but I think the team is confident and eager to continue playing good football,” he replied.
