‘Madrid want to rule 21st century’

Florentino Perez says Real Madrid want to be the best club of this century just like they were in the last one.

The Real Madrid President was speaking at a ceremony to announce an agreement between the European Champions and the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), which among other things will finance the remodelling of the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Abu Dhabi company have a partnership arrangement that will initially last five years and Perez attempted to explain the benefits of the deal.

“Just as La Decima obliges us to fix our gaze on La Undecima, we have no other calling than to be the best club in the 21st century as we were in the 20th century,” he told reporters.

“This is a strategic deal so the club can aspire to that. IPIC and Real Madrid will together have an alliance of solidarity that will strengthen the club’s schools throughout the world.

“We will take the contents of our museum to our fans wherever they are and long-term will convert the Bernabeu into the best stadium in the world, with a unique architectural and state-of-the-art environment.”

Khadem Abdulla Al Qubaisi, chief executive of IPIC, described what the plan meant.

“It is designed to give Real Madrid not only the commercial media to create the most important sports facilities in the world, but also to broaden the club’s ethics by way of their schools.”
