Bartra welcomes Spain clean sheet

Marc Bartra believes the clean sheet kept by Spain against Luxembourg is a big step for the re-building La Roja.

Bartra started alongside Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique as Spain beat the minnows 4-0, Diego Costa getting a first international goal, with David Silva, Paco Alcacer and Juan Bernat also on target.

“It seemed like things weren’t working out but we’ve taken a step forward,” Bartra said, AS reports.

“We have to be clear and say things can happen like they did against Slovakia, but we’ve done well here and have a good feeling.”

Bartra was asked for a response to comments made by Coach Vicente Del Bosque, who lamented a perceived lack of central defenders eligible for Spain.

“Talk that the position isn’t well covered doesn’t bother me,” he replied.

“I just have to play and prove I can do it properly. We didn’t concede a goal and that’s important.”
