Ramos pulls out of Spain qualifier

Sergio Ramos has been ruled out of Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovakia on Thursday.

The Real Madrid defender has a slight tear to his right calf muscle and, after tests at the Sanitas de La Moraleja clinic on Monday night, it was decided to release him from La Roja’s training camp.

The 28-year-old is believed to have spoken to national team boss Vicente del Bosque and asked to travel with the squad to see if he could at least make Sunday’s game with Luxembourg, but he has been advised not to play this week due to the extent of his injury.

Ramos’ will be replaced by Barcelona centre-back Marc Bartra, bringing to six the number of Barca players in the squad: Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Pedro, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Bartra.
