‘Fans should support Casillas’

Jose Antonio Camacho has called on the Real Madrid supporters at Santiago Bernabeu to get behind goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Casillas has been jeered by the home fans in recent appearances but former Spain Coach Camacho believes the crowd should help the captain, not hinder him.

“I see Casillas as dynamic, talking with his peers and responding well in goal,” Camacho said, according to Marca.

“If you whistle a player, you can make him fail. During the game the fans should be encouraging.”

Camacho also commended Cristiano Ronaldo, predicting a record-breaking season for the Portuguese, and praised Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique’s start at Camp Nou.

When the subject of match-fixing was raised, Camacho suggested he knew of corruption from when he was a player but insisted neither he nor his teams were involved.

“It’s important the League is on top of these allegations so that things like that can’t happen,” the former Spain boss continued.

“In my day it was always at the end of the season but it never happened to me, even though twice when I was playing for Osasuna we twice played late in the League against Barca and Madrid.”
