Sanchez: ‘Money isn’t everything’

Espanyol midfielder Victor Sanchez has insisted that ‘money isn’t everything’ after penning a new deal with the club.

The former Barcelona player [pictured, right], who was signed from Swiss outfit Neuchatel Xamax almost three years ago, has agreed a contract extension that will see him remain with Los Periquitos until June 2018.

Acknowledging he had received offers from several clubs this summer, he disclosed that he had turned them down because he is happy at Espanyol despite being offered more money to move elsewhere.

“It means more to be here, with what I get from these supporters, than to go elsewhere for the money.

“Negotiations have been long but we took it all in our stride because we knew that in the end there would be agreement between both parties,” Sanchez told a Press conference

“Both the club and myself wanted me to continue. I’m very happy and I wouldn’t mind staying here for a few more years.

“I could have earned more money but I wouldn’t have got the satisfaction I get here. The decision was mine and my family’s and it was what we thought was best.

“The challenge now is to be more consistent than in other seasons and get victories every week so we reach our best level.

“Espanyol has a top-class team, a great dressing room and support, and is one large family that makes you feel very involved.

“If we all play our part we’ll be closer to happiness than sadness,” he added.
