Dermendzhiev: ‘Madrid don’t scare us’

Ludogorets Coach Georgi Dermendzhiev says his side are not afraid of Real Madrid ahead of their Champions League encounter on Wednesday.

The clubs clash in the second Group B game of the competition and Dermendzhiev told reporters that his players are going out to enjoy the experience of pitting their wits against Carlo Ancelotti’s superstars.

“Real Madrid are a galactic team, the best in the world, and we’re going out to enjoy it and play good football,” insisted Dermendzhiev, who in August became only the second Bulgarian Coach to qualify a team from his country for the group stages of the competition.

“It’s an honour to play against them as we’ve only been up there with the elite for the last four years, so it’s fantastic.

“However, we are not afraid of them. They’ve won 10 European Cups, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo cost €100m each, but there is no fear.

“They are an amazing team but we’ll go out and play our own game because when we are focused we can beat anyone.”

The 59-year-old says he has told his players how they should approach the game.

“My players are aware of what they will need to do. I’ve told them to stay calm and play with their heads.

“We must concentrate at all times without worrying about the opposition,” he explained.
