Hacienda: debt more than LFP claim

The Spanish tax office, Hacienda, says the debt it is owed by football clubs is more than that claimed by the Spanish League (LFP).

According to figures published by the LFP last week, the tax due decreased by almost €165m last year to reach €482m, an amount Hacienda has denied. In actual fact, say the tax office, football teams owe €564m.

Furthermore, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo, the office says there are six professional clubs in a similar situation to Murcia, who were relegated to Segunda B from La Segunda before the start of this season due to non-payment of tax.

MD also reports sources from Hacienda as being more than surprised at the figures provided by the LFP, and in particular its President Javier Thebes, as they are concerned little is being done to reduce the debt.

Moreover, Hacienda feel it is their power to seize money that clubs have earned in gate receipts, transfers, television rights and advertising that has brought the debt down in recent years.
