La Roja ‘unforgettable’ for Casilla

Kiko Casilla has admitted that his call-up to the Spain squad for the games with France and Macedonia was ‘unforgettable’.

The Espanyol goalkeeper was included in Vicente del Bosque’s squad for the first time and says it is an experience he is eager to repeat.

“Being called up to the national squad was an unforgettable experience. At first I was a bit anxious as to how I’d be received, but my teammates the Spanish Football Federation representatives made things easy.

“Now it’s up to me to continue working hard for my club and I hope to be called up again,” he told reporters.

The 27-year-old also took time out to comment on Spain No 1 Iker Casillas, Espanyol’s game at Valencia on Sunday, and his own situation at club level.

“Iker was looking relaxed and in good form. He’s been working hard in training and showed against Macedonia just how good he is.

“Now it’s time to prepare for an important match against Valencia. I’ve been told the team has trained well over the past few days and is gradually getting used to the Coach and his ideas.

“Personally, my intention is to renew my contract at the club and I’m not thinking of moving anywhere else. It doesn’t even enter my head.

“It’s just a question of finding time to sit down and negotiate so everybody is happy,” he concluded.
