Plaza Luis Aragones opened in Madrid

A ceremony has been held to pay tribute to Luis Aragones, with the official opening of Plaza Luis Aragones at the RFEF headquarters.

AS reports that the square leading to             Ciudad del Futbol in Las Rozas was named for the late Coach, who passed away earlier this year.

The ceremony was attended by Aragones’ wife, five children and 11 grandchildren, as well as members of the current Spain squad – some of whom won Euro 2008 under Aragones.

Vicente Del Bosque, Aragones’ successor, his assistant Toni Grande and Aragones’ assistant Jesus Pardes were also in attendance.

The mayor of Las Rozas de Madrid, Jose Ignacio Fernandez Rubio, opened the square, with Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo and other players who worked with Aragones also present.

Jorge Perez, secretary general of the RFEF, said the federation had always thought of Aragones and the opening of the square dedicated to his memory was the manifestation of it.

“The federation always kept the memory of Luis,” Perez added.

“The hall of Ciudad del Futbol bears his name and now we’re proud the mayor of Las Rozas has seen fit to give the name of the plaza that leads into the premises of the federation.”
