Miranda ‘grateful’ to Atletico

Miranda has vowed to fight for more trophies with Atletico Madrid and expressed his gratitude to the champions after returning to the Brazil squad.

The centre-back was strongly linked with a move away from Vicente Calderon over the summer but eventually stayed, saying it was family reasons and his love for the club that kept him in situ.

“Atletico is a team that has to fight for trophies,” Miranda told an interview with AS.

“We will do whatever it takes to give the club more trophies. So far I have been through many successes in the years I’ve been here and I’m very grateful.

“All I know is that we will try hard. The truth is we have strengthened in all positions.

“I was glad Tiago Mendes returned. The key is to have patience to let the new players fit in and show what they’re capable of.

“Guilherme Siqueira is a player the level of Filipe Luis. I’ll bet everything we can bring a lot of joy.

“In defence we have the same dynamics as before and as the games go on we’ll feel even better.”

On the subject of his mooted departure, Miranda confirmed there was interest but said he followed his heart to ignore it.

“I think speculation is normal when a club succeeds,” he began on the subject.

“Staying in Madrid was best for me and my family. I am very happy to be a Rojiblanco. I love Madrid and this is a great club.”
